Welcome to the UCSB Stuttering Treatment Clinic. The Clinic offers the MPI (Modifying Phonation Intervals) Stuttering Treatment Program for the treatment of chronic stuttering in adults and adolescents. The Clinic is a division of UCSB's Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences.
The MPI Program is based on the many years of research by UCSB Speech and Hearing Professor Dr. Roger J. Ingham and colleagues. After a lengthy period of basic research and clinical trials the MPI Program emerged and is now being tested in Phase II clinical trials with NIH support. Progress with these trials is such that the program is showing strong signs that it is very effective in achieving sustained and durable fluency with patients who meet a series of assessment criteria. For that reason the program is now being made available at the UCSB Stuttering Treatment Clinic for adults and adolescents with chronic developmental stuttering who meet these criteria.
Located on the beautiful campus of UCSB, the Stuttering Treatment Clinic helps stutterers with chronic developmental stuttering eliminate their stuttering with the proprietary MPI (Modifying Phonation Intervals) stuttering treatment.
Our qualified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) manages each patient's MPI treatment program which is divided into three phases: Establishment, Transfer, and Maintenance. Once treatment is complete, most patients achieve natural-sounding stutter-free speech.
